Essentially an out-of-town ’boutique hotel’ Macushla House is presented in the style of an elegant ’home from home’, with particular attention to detail of decor. In style, it offers space, traditional beamed ceilings, local art, natural wood doors and exceptionally tasteful soft furnishings. There are two elegant but welcoming lounges, each with a glowing log fire and a terrace leading to the gardens and swimming pool. Supremely relaxed yet gracious, this Kenyan country-house hotel also offers a secluded ’study’, an elegant dining room and a charming residents bar. Styled to accommodate only ten guests, intimacy, a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and superlative service are guaranteed. This six-bedroomed house lies at the edge of the indigenous forests that make make the Langata and Karen areas so charming and exclusive.

Accommodation 

Macushla House offers six bedrooms housed in two ’wings’ of the house. High ceiling, light and airy, they feature four-poster wrought-iron work beds, themed decor and delightful views over the gardens. 

Dining and bars 

Specialising in wholesome home-cooked cuisine, Macushla House offers numerous dining opportunities. As well as the elegant dining room, meals can be taken on the garden terraces, by the pool, or in the grounds themselves. Afternoon tea, in the English style, one of the house’s specialities, is traditionally served on the pool terrace or in the study. 

Conference and event facilities 

Ideally suited to the hosting of small and intimate meetings or workshops, Macushla House can be adapted to offer boardroom facilities, seminar or workshop options. 

Weddings and honeymoons

Beautifully presented with faultless gardens in the traditional style, Macushla House makes the ideal wedding venue and can be taken in its entirety.

Child friendly

Macushla House welcomes children and can arrange baby-sitting upon request. Cots and extra beds provided. No age-limit for children. 

Attractions at Macushla House

The house is ideally-placed for visits to: The Matbronze Art Gallery & Foundry; The Giraffe Centre – to hand feed giraffes and for nature walks; the Butterfly Centre – an entomological centre dedicated to the study and preservation of all things butterfly. Kazuri Beads, beautiful beads and pottery hand-made by women’s community groups.  The Karen Blixen Museum, former home of Karen Blixen, now a National Museum.  Utamaduni, a unique and stylish African handicrafts and décor centre; The Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Sanctuary (for orphaned elephants and rhino) and Nairobi National Park, the only ‘city’ park in the world. Nearby there is also; The Karen Riding School, The Bomas of Kenya (the national showcase for traditional dance), Mamba Village (crocodile farm), The House of Treasures, an exclusive collection of unique interior design, fashion and gift items, the world-famous Carnivore Restaurant and Nairobi Racecourse.
