Kigongoni Lodge

Kigongoni Lodge has a tranquil hilltop position some 8 km outside Arusha. Welcoming and friendly it offers a comfortable common area with fireplaces and reading nooks a restaurant and spacious cottages all with porches, large bathtubs and wide views.
A relatively new lodge built on a 28ha coffee farm, surrounded by 70 acres of indigenous forest, this attractive and friendly safari lodge boasts excellent views of both Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, and a charming hill-top swimming pool. Kigongoni Lodge offers 18 cottages, all built from local stone, all with open fireplaces, verandas and 4-poster beds. The Kigongoni Lodge restaurant serves a set 3-course meal nightly. There is also a cocktail lounge overlooking the heated swimming pool.

Activities at Kigongoni Lodge include guided walks and visits to the Sibusiso Foundation, a center dedicated towards the improvement of the quality of life of a group of mentally disabled children and their families. The foundation is adjacent to the lodge, and supported by it.

Location
The Kigongoni Lodge is 10 km east of Arusha on the Moshi Road, 1 km before Tengeru, 1 km south of the tarmac road, 40 kms (45 minutes) west from Kilimanjaro International Airport and 10 km East from Arusha Airport.
Arusha is connected by daily internal flights with Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Mwanza. There are several flights weekly to the Seronera airstrip in Serengeti National Park, Musoma and Shinyanga. There are also frequent flights to Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks. Several international airlines have flights into Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), which is half way between Arusha and Moshi whilst a number of internal flights use Arusha Airport (about 8km out of town).   

Accommodation
The lodge offers 18 cottages, each 60 sq m, and one family room (with two bedrooms and one bathroom ensuite). All the cottages have private verandahs with views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro. All have 4-poster beds with mosquito nets, fireplaces and spacious bathrooms. Additionally, the lodge offers room service, laundry, early morning tea/coffee, telephone in room, WiFi and airport transfers.

Dining and bars
The Kigongoni Lodge restaurant serves a set 3-course meal nightly. There is also a cocktail lounge overlooking the heated swimming pool. The cuisine blends international and African style using organically grown vegetables from its own garden. The dining room has an open fire.
The Kigongoni Lodge menu will typically include a wide selection of East Africa, Tanzania and traditional safari choices as well as numerous international choices.

Conferences and events
Kigongoni Lodge does not offer specific conference facilities but will be happy to quote for small meetings and social gatherings. A wide range of Tanzania incentives can also be arranged in or around the area.

Weddings and honeymoons
Kigongoni Lodge makes an ideal Tanzania wedding destination.

Child-friendly
Kigongoni Lodge welcomes children and will be pleased to supply additional beds.

What to see and do
Visit to the Sibusiso Foundation:
Sibusiso is the most important reason for Kigongoni Lodge's existence
Sibusiso foundation is helping mentally disabled children and their families. More than 1200 children from the north of Tanzania have so far been enlisted in the program which is aimed at developing their skills, improving their independence and supporting and advising their family. Kigongoni Lodge is a major supporter of Sibusiso, which lies adjacent to Kigongoni Lodge. Atty Hammer, who has founded Sibusiso together with her husband, is the Director of both Kigongoni and Sibusiso.
