Sarova Stanley

As one would expect of such a venerable hotel, the Sarova Stanley Hotel is redolent of colonial times past and Edwardian grandeur. Recently completely refurbished it offers style, charm and a timeless elegance which now works hand-in-hand with the refinements of global communications and the provision of a state-of-the-art health club, roof-top swimming pool, iconistic restaurants and bars. The lengendary ’Exchange Bar’ at which have sat most of the great names in Kenya’s history, though completely refurbished, still retains its air of mystique, adventure and action.

Built in 1902 when Nairobi was a minor encampment at the head of the ‘Lunatic Express’ – one of the world’s greatest railways, running from Mombasa to the shores of Lake Victoria, the Sarova Stanley Hotel is part of the very fabric of Kenya. It was here, or at the nearby Norfolk Hotel, that colonial life centered, here that incoming dignitaries, royalty, artistocracy and Hollywood stars stayed. The Sarova Stanley Hotel Thorn Tree Café also established itself as the place where EVERYBODY met – it being traditional to leave messages pinned to the acacia tree that stood at the centre of the café. These days, renovated and updated to offer world-class amenities, the Sarova Stanley Hotel is still one of Nairobi’s best-known, best-loved and ‘must visit’ establishments.
