E Unoto Retreat is a Masai-inspired traditional Tanzania safari lodge, which has been styled to suggest an authentic Masai village. Standing high on the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, it overlooks Lake Miwaleni, which is 10 kms north of Lake Manyara National Park. E Unoto Retreat offers just 25 luxury rooms, all of which overlook the lake, which is home to numerous hippos. An infinity pool overlooks the lakes and biking and guided walks are offered. The lodge offers complimentary bicycles to its guests and activities include guided walks, game drives and golf at a nearby course.

Location.

E Unoto Retreat is 14 kms from Mto wa Mbu (17kms from Lake Manyara National Park), on the road to Lake Natron. It is approximately 1-2 hour’s drive from Arusha, Tanzania.

The wildlife

Lake Manyara national park is famous for its spectacular tree-climbing lions and also offers; monkey, jackal, mongoose, hyena, hyrax, elephant, rhino, leopard, zebra, hippo, warthog, buffalo, Masai giraffe, duiker, waterbuck and impala. Birds: Manyara is noted for its wealth of bird life, which includes many thousands of lesser flamingoes, greater flamingos, pelican, yellow-billed stork and white-necked cormorant.

Accommodation

E Unoto Retreat offers 25 rooms (4 of which allow wheelchair access. All the rooms are ensuite with private balconies. There is also a honeymoon suite with personal butler. The E Unoto Retreat is open all year round.

E Unoto Retreat offers a Masai-styled dining and bar area overlooking the lake.
Menus at the lodge typically reflect the best of Tanzania choices, vegetarian options, safari specials and international favourites.

Conference and event facilities

E Unoto Retreat does not offer specific conference facilities but small events can be accommodated. The lodge makes an ideal honeymoon or Tanzania wedding venue.

What to see and do

Typical Tanzania safari experiences: Safari game drives in especially adapted 4WD safari vehicles (with professionally trained Tanzania safari guides), adventure bush breakfasts, lunches and dinners; cocktails around the lodge safari campfire and guided safari walks through the bush and around the flamingo-fringed lake. E Unoto Retreat also offers ornithological tours, cultural performances and visits to the local Maasai people of Tanzania.

Specific to Lake Manyara adventure safaris activities: Boating trips around Lake Manyara and its ecosystem, Flamingo-viewing; visits to the villages of the Mbu Cultural Tourism Programme offering village walks, bicycle tours and boating trips.
Mountain biking around the national park and adjacent landscapes; day game driving trips to nearby Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire National Park; visits to the Conservation Area and the Ol Duvai Gorge paleolithic site.

Activities

BIRD WATCHING
With more than 400 species of native birds in the area, E Unoto Retreat is the perfect haven for bird watching. Birdlife that has been spotted includes the Ring-necked Pigeon, Laughing Dove, Oxpeckers and Superb Starling. The lodge has telescopes and binoculars for viewing the birds and animals in close proximity and in the distance. Birds can also be sighted on our nature walks and are also plentiful around the lodge.

CYCLING
Complimentary bicycles are available for adults and children staying at E Unoto Retreat. Cycling is a great way to experience the culture and natural wilds in this beautiful environment. You can cycle to the Maasai Boma (30 minutes to 2 hours depending on personal interest – moderate exertion), Maasai Market or small township of Mto wa Mbu (both 2 to 4 hours – strenuous exertion).

GAME DRIVES
Numerous national parks are at close proximity to E Unoto Retreat, including Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater. Game drives can be arranged that take you to view Tanzania’s diverse collection of native animals and birdlife in their natural habitat. An experienced guide will accompany you during the day and return you safely to the luxury of your room in the evening.
