Sayari Camp

Sayari Camp (Sayari is Kiswahili for universe/planet) is located on the Mara River, in the northern part of the Serengeti. This is where the Migration typically stays from mid July/August until November. Outside the Migration season, however, there is also an abundance of residential wildlife.   At this time, Sayari Camp is the only permanent camp on the Tanzanian side of the Mara River area. Sayari Camp is an intimate seasonal tented camp, with only nine safari tents.

Location

The Serengeti National Park is 200 kms west of Arusha, Tanzania: the park’s northern boundary abuts with the Kenya border, its western boundary reaches Lake Victoria, Tanzania.

Accommodation

Sayari Camp’s tents are designed to be spacious and are equipped with fully en-suite bathroom facilities. Each tent has its own private verandah with a reclining couch and chairs, positioned to overlook the vast Serengeti. Inside the tent, king-size beds and contemporary furniture give the tent a stylish yet homely feel. Lighting in the tent can be made both atmospheric and at reading strength. The spacious bathroom has a shower, double sinks and a ceramic flush toilet that is environmentally friendly. The showers, sinks and flush toilets are linked to an outside bucketing system.  Warm showers can be requested with your tent attendant at any moment of the day; water for toilet flushing and for the sinks are available continuously.

Dining and bars

Central to the Sayari Camp are two stylish communal safari tents: the intimate and welcoming lounge, with soft lanterns, plush sofas and floor cushions and a library of safari books; and the dining tent. Meals are typically served in the dining tent, but can also be enjoyed privately under the millions of stars in the Serengeti sky. Sundowners are traditionally served around the campfire before dinner. Menus feature both Tanzanian and international choices.

Child-friendly

Sayari Camp welcomes children.

What to see and do

The Lamai Wedge area and the banks of the Mara River offer some of the best and undisturbed game driving in the Serengeti. During the Migration season (mid July to November), guests have a very good chance of seeing famous Mara River wildebeest crossings, especially since the camp’s guides have an in-depth knowledge of the surrounding ecosystem. Sayari Camp operates in the remotest areas of the Serengeti eco-system, thus allowing for long-range game drives, which are undisturbed by other vehicles and afford private and unique game sightings.

Typical Tanzania safari experiences at Sayari Camp include: safari game drives in especially adapted 4WD safari vehicles (with professionally trained Tanzania safari guides), safari bush breakfasts, lunches and dinners; cocktails around the camp safari campfire and guided safari walks through the bush. Sayari Camp also offers ornithological tours, cultural performances and visits to the local Maasai people of Tanzania.
In the Serengeti, a particular highlight is a hot air balloon ride, which typically ascends from its launch site at dawn and travels for around an hour across the plains before descending in a controlled landing to a cooked safari breakfast in the bush.
