The relatively newly built, Lake Burunge Tented Camp is located in a shaded grove overlooking the picturesque seasonal Lake Burunge. Some distance south of the main Tarangire tourist circuit, in an area of dense bush known for its populations of dry country antelope such as lesser kudu and gerenuk, accommodation is in spacious and attractively rustic ensuite twin and double tents built on stilted platforms and shaded by Makuti roofs. The camp is well positioned for game drives and also offers guided nature walks along with canoe trips when the lake holds water.

Offering only 16 luxury tents, it is romantic and intimate. The central buildings offer a lounge, bar and dining area with a raised wooden viewing deck, which offers excellent wildlife viewing. Below the lodge is a clearing with a campfire, excellent for evening sundowners. Offering long views of the rolling plains of the savanna, it is surrounded by large stands of ancient baobab trees, which offer sanctuary to large family herds of elephants, prolific bird life and dry season concentrations of wildlife.

Location

The camp is only a 10 minutes flight away from Tarangire National Park at 114km from Arusha. The Tarangire National Park lies at the core of the much larger Tarangire Conservation Area (TCA), which extends across the Maasai Steppes, 7km off the main Arusha-Dodoma road. This area was once used for trophy hunting until it was restored to the traditional Maasai owners in the late 1990s.

Accommodation

There are 16 large double tents (13 twins, 3 king-size double beds). Each room is linked by wooden walkways and enjoys a large private verandah; all offer ensuite bathrooms with hot and cold showers and flushed WCs.

Dining and bars

The central dining area offers three meals a day, meals can also be taken in the surrounding bushlands. Sundowners around the campfire are a feature of camp life.
The Lake Burunge Tented Camp menu will typically include a wide selection of East Africa, Tanzania and traditional safari choices as well as numerous international choices.

Conferences and events

The camp does not offer specific conference facilities but will be happy to quote for small meetings and social gatherings. A wide range of Tanzania incentives can also be arranged in or around the national park.

Safari experiences in Tarangire

Typical safari experiences at Lake Burunge Tented Camp include: safari game drives in especially adapted 4WD safari vehicles (with professionally trained Tanzania safari guides), safari bush breakfasts, lunches and dinners; cocktails around the camp safari campfire and guided safari walks through the bush. Lake Burunge Tented Camp also offers ornithological tours, cultural performances and visits to the local Maasai people of Tanzania. Walking tours and night game drives can also be enjoyed in the larger Tarangire Conservation Area, which is immediately adjacent to the national park.
