The Speke Hotel is the oldest hotel in Kampala and is named after the famous British explorer, John Hannington Speke, who 'discovered’ the source of River Nile. The Speke Hotel is situated in the heart of Kampala and at the foot of the gardens in which stands the Sheraton Hotel. Kampala International Airport is located at Entebbe, 35 km (22 miles) away, while Port Bell on the shore of Lake Victoria is 10 km (7 miles) away.
