Gately on the Nile is a renovated colonial house superbly situated on the shores of Lake Victoria in Jinja, Uganda. Describing itself as 'Jinja's premiere bed and breakfast guest house accommodation', Gately on the Nile, opened in 2001, is best described as a boutique hotel standing in four acres of tropical gardens, which fringe the waters of Lake Victoria. Owned by Merryde Loosemore, who was inspired to open a hotel in Uganda by her Great Aunt, who visited here during her many travels, Gately on the Nile offers a uniquely tranquil retreat, an intimate conference venue, the ideal weekend getaway for families from Kampala, and a convenient stopover for business and leisure travelers alike. Styled to replicate the aura of a 1940’s colonial bungalow, Gately on the Nile offers a terrace restaurant overlooking the peaceful gardens, and a series of traditionally built cottages in which the rooms are housed. Gately on the Nile stands adjacent to The Jinja Club, which offers a scenic golf course, tennis and squash courts plus a swimming pool. 

Location 

Jinja stands on the shores of Lake Victoria only 80km from Kampala, 114km from Entebbe and 125km from the Kenyan border. Gately on the Nile is in the centre of Jinja, which is a three hour drive from Entebbe International Airport via Kamala. Gately on the Nile provides airport shuttle services on request.

Accommodation 

Originally opening with only four rooms, Gately on the Nile now offers 21 rooms, all of which retain the unique ambience of the original. There are 13 exclusive en-suite bedrooms, 4 luxurious garden cottages and 4 comfortable self-contained budget annexe rooms. WiFi is provided at no charge. Services include laundry, dry cleaning, travel booking, business centre services. Gately on the Nile also offers a private guest lounge with computer as well as a gift shop.

Dining and bars 

The Terrace Restaurant offers a bistro styled menu offering both local and international choices and an authentic Thai menu. Presented in typical colonial style, the elegant dining room of Gately on the Nile centers on a log-burning fire place. Meals are also served on the candle-lit terrace and in the gardens.

Conference and event facilities
