Katara Lodge

The Katara Lodge is located on the Kichwamba Escarpment, an area of volcanic activity which now features 72 explosion craters, and a series of undulating hills and valleys, which provide an exceptionally scenic backdrop. Just a short drive from the main entrance of the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Katara Lodge stands on the edge of the hills overlooking miles and miles of open savannah. Offering just five luxury cottages, The Katara Lodge is the ultimate fusion of forest lodge and boutique hotel. Committedly eco-friendly, Katara Lodge also uses solar power while making a signfificant contribition to the life of the surrounding community via its work with the Albertine Rift Tourism Conversation, a local body that works with local people to provide guides, staff, agriculatural products and handicraft items.

Accommodation

The Katara Lodge offers accommodation in five luxurious thatched cottages on a beautiful stretch of hills overlooking the open savannah in a serene and relaxing atmosphere. Each spacious cottage was hand crafted using locally available materials and carved into the hillside by the Katara village community. The cottages combine wooden floors, grass thatched roofs and canvas that can be folded away for uninterrupted views of the park stretching out below.

The bathrooms are luxuriously fitted – the romantic roll top bath, or the invigorating rain shower, provide a perfect way to unwind after a thrilling day on safari. The water is heated using solar thermal energy. You may choose to start the evening with a sundowner on the private veranda perched on stilts. The more adventurous can spend the night under the African sky on a four poster star bed. On a lucky day, you might be woken up by the trumpeting sound of the elephants in the savannah below.

Dining and bars

The main bar and dining area of The Katara Lodge is accommodated in a large thatched structure, which is completely open to the western side thus providing a beautiful view of the plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park, with the Rwenzori Mountains providing a stunning backdrop on a clear day. The Katara Lodge offers both local and international cuisine and also features a bar.

Conference and event facilities

Whilst The Katara Lodge does not offer specific conference facilities, it will be delighted to host small conferences, working groups or team building events.
