Lake Masek Tented Camp

An eco-friendly luxury tented camp situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area overlooking Lake Masek in Ndutu, this luxury camp is situated between the vast plains of the Serengeti National Park and the northwest side of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Location

Lake Masek Luxury Tented Camp is situated in the northwest side of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area overlooking Lake Masek, 280 km from Arusha (4 hrs drive) or a 1 ½ hrs drive from Ngorongoro Crater. There are regular flights daily to and from Arusha and /or from Seronera. Some of there flights also connect with flights to and from Zanzibar and other national parks.

Accommodation


The camp offers 20 luxury tents with en suite facilities with either king sized beds, twins or triple beds. Each tent is built on a raised wooden platform with a verandah from which guests can observe the wildlife visiting Lake Masek. The bedroom area is ample and tastefully furnished. The bathroom area with twin washbasins, a standalone bath and an outside shower is separated from the bedroom area by way of a screen. Guests can enjoy a relaxing bath or take a shower under the stars.

Dining and bars

The main house has a lounge and dining area and a large verandah overlooking the lake.The lounge is decorated with comfortable sofas and armchairs grouped together to create intimacy. Guests can enjoy uninterrupted views of Lake Masek. Meals are served in the dining area or on the verandah.

What to see and do

Bush breakfasts & sundowners:

Breakfasts and/or cocktails can be arranged in private areas of the park upon request.

Visit Olduvai Archeological site:
The camp is located one-hour drive from this important archeological site where the Leakeys made important archeological discoveries. This is a visit that should not be missed.

Visit Laetoli Archeological site:
Visit the area where footprints of two Australopithecus afarensis were discovered in 1974-1975 by Mary Leakey and demonstrate that 3.6 million years ago early humans walked upright on two legs.

Escorted hikes with Masai Guides:
An extraordinary opportunity to walk together with an experienced Masai Guide who will introduce guests to their culture and everyday activities. In addition, we can arrange a visit to a Masai house (boma).

Balloon safari:
During the migration season balloon safaris can be arranged.

Flying packages:
Flying packages can be organized before arrival. The lodge can pick up guests from the nearest airstrips. There are 4x4 WD vehicles based at the camp offering fantastic game drives in the area.
