Deloraine House

Deloraine is the home of Offbeat Safaris founders, Tristan and Cindy Voorspuy and reflects the wealth and depth of Kenya's fascinating history. Echoing the elegant lifestyle of a bygone era, the house has had many famous guests, most particularly Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, came to stay here on a number of occasions. The house was built in 1920 by Lord Francis Scott who was a prominent early settler and, standing amid 3500 acres of farmland, it is one of the finest examples of colonial architecture in Kenya. 

Location

Deloraine is located on the western edge of the Great Rift Valley on the lower slopes of Mount Londiani. It is within driving distance (45 minutes) of Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its flamingo's and rhino, and Lake Bogoria another beautiful park.Lake Nakuru is 160 kms north of Nairobi and lies at the heart of the Great Rift Valley. Nearby are the lakes of Elementaita, Naivasha and Bogoria. 

The Background

Tristan and Lucinda Voorspuy have lived here for over 15 years with their two children. Immaculately run by Cindy, guests are welcome to join in with the house party atmosphere. 

Accommodation

Upstairs there are 3 large bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms and a further 2 bedrooms suitable for a family wanting to share a bathroom. Downstairs the large drawing room and dining room provide the ideal setting for a house party with an outside veranda that overlooks the beautiful tropical gardens. There is also a cottage adjacent to the house with 3 separate double en-suite rooms.

Dining and bars

There is a central restaurant with bar and cocktail bar. Meals are typically presented in African buffet style. Bush BBQs are also featured as are African nights. 

Child-friendly

Children are welcome and family rooms are available. Baby-sitting, children’s meal times and menus.

What to see and do

Deloraine is the headquarters of Offbeat Safaris' Mobile Riding Safari operation. Their yard and stables, with approximately 80 horses, boasts some of the finest polo ponies in Kenya. Guests are welcome to ride around the farm and the nearby mountain providing spectacular views across the surrounding countryside. There is also a cross country course and a polo ground. Finally guests can also go on a full day's game drive with picnic lunch to Lake Nakuru National Park. Other activities include magnificent gardens, a croquet lawn, tennis court and a swimming pool.
