Kiboko Bay Resort is located on the shores of Lake Victoria close the little fishing village of Dunga, which is five kilometres from Kisumu. Dunga is one of the best places in Kenya to see the traditional ssese canoes being made. These are used to operate the local passenger service on the lake, also for fishing. Painted in bright colours, often depicting a favourite football team, the boats are 8 long and narrow and have a large outboard motor. They are known locally as yie, while those with sails are known as yie nange.
This friendly resort offers gorgeous views of the lake, excellent bird-watching, hippo spotting, sandy beaches, and numerous walks and boat rides.
Location and climate
Kisumu is 350 kilometres north of Nairobi on the shores of Lake Victoria.
By road: Kisumu is 350 km from Nairobi, 53 km from Kakamega, 83 km from Kericho, 121 km from Kisii and 142 km from Homa Bay. By air: the trip by air to Nairobi takes around one hour and there are regular flights operated by Kenya Airways.
By water: Kisumu is linked by ferry with Kendu Bay, Homa Bay and Mbita (as well as to neighbouring countries).
Climate: hot and humid all year round.
Accommodation
Accommodation is presented in traditionally built Luo rondavels (circular cottages). Each ensuite room is attractively furnished and enjoys magnificent views of the lake.
