In the heart of Stone Town, 236 Hurumzi is one of Zanzibar’s best-known and highly rated hotels. Originally it was owned and decorated in eclectic style by a Mr Emerson, now named after Hurumzi Street, upon which it stands and occupying 2 restored buildings dating from 1840-70 with gorgeously decorated with antique Zanzibari furniture and carpets. Each room is magically different. Its ‘Tower Top Restaurant’, is the second-highest building in Zanzibar.

The Dhow Palace is an original house set in the heart of Stone Town, the capital city of Zanzibar. Economically priced and simplistically presented, it offers a roof-top restaurant, a central courtyard and a selection of large, authentic, rooms, all with enormous Zanzibari four-poster beds. Fully renovated in 2005, a new wing has been added to the original building, which offers a central courtyard with swimming pool, and a new selection of rooms, all with balconies. 

The Fairmont Zanzibar resort is located on the north east coast of Zanzibar’s main Island (Ungunja), 55 minutes from Zanzibar Kisauni International Airport. A sparkling hotel with traditional influences and modern day facilities in combination with authentic Swahili hospitality, Swahili House is located in the bustling heart of Stone Town, Zanzibar. The building was originally set up and used as an Indian Merchant House in the 19th century. In the 125 years that were to come the building was home to one of the many Sultan families and then became a hotel some years ago. Most of the hotel has been restored into its original state.
