Mbweha Camp

With long views over the Eburu and Mau Escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, Mbweha Camp stands on a 6,400 acre private game conservancy, which is adjacent to the southern boundaries of Lake Nakuru National Park. Offering a central dining room, sunken bar, charming lawns and its own small waterhole, the camp features just ten rustic but comfortable cottages.

Mbweha means ‘jackal’ in Swahili, and reflects the fact that this private reserve offers sanctuary to the side-striped jackal, the silver-backed jackal and the golden jackal. The reserve also offers: 300 species of birds, elands, warthogs, zebras, leopards, grants gazelles, waterbucks, impalas, hyenas, dik-dik, buffalo, giraffes, aardvark and baboons.

Location

Lake Nakuru is 160 kms north of Nairobi and lies at the heart of the Great Rift Valley. Nearby are the lakes of Elmenteita, Naivasha and Bogoria.

Accommodation

There are just 10 cottages, built from local volcanic stone and traditionally thatched. Each has its own ensuite bathroom and is charmingly presented.
