Just 1km off the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway, this luxury tented camp makes an ideal stopover enroute to the coast, or a base from which to explore Tsavo West (2km away from the camp) and Tsavo East (10km away from the camp) national parks.
The camp is consists of 30 luxury en-suit tents, each with a private balcony overlooking the Tsavo River. There is a central lounge, restaurant and bar and a rock-built swimming pool.
One kilometre from Tsavo station and bridge, the camp is named after the two man-eating lions that devoured countless workers during the building of the famous ‘Lunatic Line’. One of the epic dramas of Victorian railway construction the so-called ‘Lunatic Line’ climbs from sea level at Mombasa through desert, grass plain, mountain and forest to cross the Equator at 2,785 metres before descending to the humid shores of Lake Victoria at 1,520 m whilst traversing most of the geographic and climatic range of Africa in the course of its 1,000km length. A miracle of engineering, all the rolling stock and labour for the railway was imported from India (1.2 million sleepers and more than 200,000 rails) and when complete it boasted 43 stations 35 viaducts and 1,280 bridges. As to cost, the Uganda Railway claimed the lives of 2,500 Indian workers and cost 5.5 million pounds sterling (annual British government expenditure at the time was around 113 million). That said it was one of the most staggering feats of engineering ever carried out in Africa and it remains one of the world’s great railways.

The camp lies 1KM from Tsavo railway station on the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway, 232 kms from Nairobi.

The Man Eater’s lounge displays memorabilia from the time of the building of the railway while the Tsavo River Restaurant serves a wide range of local and international cuisine. Overlooking the river, the Simba Mbili bar promises elephant and hippo viewing.

Experience the real safari – morning and afternoon game drives through the park with our trained driver-guides. Picnic lunches and sundowners can be provided. Tsavo offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world – vast herds of dust-red elephant, fat pods of hippo, giant crocodile, teeming herds of plains game, a fantasia of bird life and some magical flora. All walks accompanied by Kenya Wildlife Service armed rangers.
Private ‘bush’ lunches and dinners can be arranged in the bush, complete with waiters, private bar and private BBQ cooking station, campfires and hurricane lamps.
