Naibor Camp

A luxury tented camp, Naibor is situated on the 10,000-acre wildlife conservancy of the Kinyei Group Ranch, which lies between the Masai Mara National Reserve and the Loita Hills. Because it stands on private land, the scope of activities available is much wider than in the national park, where such things as walking and night game drives are not permitted. A cluster of beige tents set amongst an acacia grove, the camp has been constructed making optimum use of locally gathered wildwood, natural wool drugs and vividly colourful furnishings, many of which reflect the iconic Maasai traditions.

Originally designed by Anthony Russel, this unique luxury tented camp is a striking combination of contemporary style and comfort. Located in the heart of the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, it is hidden in a grove of riverine woodland on the banks of the Talek River.

Location

The Masai Mara is 270 miles from Nairobi (five hours by road). All weather air strip - less than an hour from Nairobi by plane. Naibor Camp is hidden in the riverine woodland of the Talek River about 2km from the point where it flows into the Mara River, just about the very heart of the Mara Game Reserve. This is a superb location from which to explore the Mara habitat, host to a vast array of wildlife. Naibor is ideally located close to all the major wildebeest crossing sites over the Mara River.

Main Naibor has a total of 7 tents, each of which has a \ shady verandah, his & hers wash basins, en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and safari shower. The tents are all carefully positioned amongst the trees so that each can enjoy the surrounding woodland in complete privacy.

Each of these stunning suites have their own private fire places and dining areas set up strategically located overlooking the Talek River with complete privacy and spectacular views. Little Naibor can be booked and used as an exclusive private arrangement, or used in conjunction with the main Naibor Camp and its facilities.

The main 'mess' tent is located centrally, overlooking a saltlick where animals regularly come to drink. Comfortable floor-cushions, rugs and sofas are grouped around a log fire, meals are made from the finest fresh ingredients and prepared by experienced chefs. Dinner is served at either the long banquet table or at private tables under the stars, whilst breakfast and lunch may either be served in camp or as a picnic during a morning of game watching.

Child-friendly

The camp welcomes children and additional beds can be provided.

What to see and do

The conservancy offers a large variety of wildlife and birds and there is plenty to see and do. Activities often take place in the mornings and late afternoons as it is cooler and the game therefore more active and easy to spot. Game viewing is specially adapted safari vehicles often rewards guests with sighting of lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, hyena and elephant in addition to many different types of herbivore including Zebra, gazelle, eland, wildebeest and giraffe to name but a few. Birdlife in the area is prolific and varied, with a new species for Kenya recently identified near the camp. To enjoy nature up-close, we highly recommend a bush walk with our experienced rangers and guides, as a truly different experience. Sundowners, night-drives and bush breakfasts or dinners are very enjoyable and for the most active, the camp offers mountain biking through the scenic plains that surround the camp. Day trips into the Masai Mara Reserve itself with a picnic breakfast and/or lunch can be arranged as can hot-air ballooning at an additional cost. We are fortunate to be able to offer our guests the excitement of game viewing on foot or mountain bikes, in addition to game drives in the surrounding conservancy. Night drives are often rewarding with lion, leopard and cheetah seen regularly amongst a wide variety of herbivores and nocturnal animals.
