The epitome of tented-camp luxury

Severin Safari Camp stands amid 25 acres of savannah, in one of the most beautiful areas of Tsavo West National Park, within easy reach of famous Mzima Springs. Unfenced, the camp offers 27 octagonal tents, all with extensive private verandahs. The camp overlooks two natural water holes and offers an open-sided dining room and bar. 

Location

Severin Safari Camp is located in Tsavo West National Park, the biggest game reserve in East Africa, about 250 km from Mombasa and Nairobi. With view to Mt. Kilimanjaro, it offers a unique landscape with vast savannahs, wooded flood plains and the famous "red" elephants. The camp can be reached by car or plane without difficulty. The park entrance Mtito Andei lies about 40 km away from the Kitani region. The next airstrip lies in short distance (about 25 minutes by car) - the ideal starting point for a flight safari. The flight from Mombasa or Nairobi to Tsavo West National Park takes about an hour.

Accommodation

Tents: All 21 octagonal tents are equipped with running cold and hot water, shower, separate toilet with bidet, comfortable beds with mosquito nets and private terrace. Each tent offers 220 volt electricity, a SEVERIN hair-dryer and a safe.

Junior Suites: The four Junior Suites are built in stone and additionally offer a separate living room, sun deck with loungers and a private courtyard with outdoor shower. The Junior Suites are namend Mzima Springs, Roaring Rocks, Chyulu Hills and Shetani Cave and provide spacious bathrooms flooded with sunlight with two wash hand basins. The coffee and tea making facilities, basic beverages of the minibar as well as butler service is included.

Suites: The elevated observation decks of our Kibo and Mawenzi Suite offer a wonderful view to Mt. Kilimanjaro and the wide savannah of Tsavo. The spacious suites are additionally equipped with a corner bathtub and are perfectly suitable for families due to the adjoining tent. The coffee and tea making facilities, basic beverages of the minibar as well as butler service is included.

Bandas: The eight self catering Bandas are equipped with kitchenette, private bathroom and beds with mosquito nets and offers an authentic feeling of Africa. From the canopied veranda you overlook your own fireplace.

Conferences, events, weddings

The camp offers an 80 sqm octagonal conference and events tent which will accommodate 30 persons and offers full AV and banqueting services. The Baraza Tent also adapts itself ideally to weddings and receptions. 

Child-friendly

The camp welcomes children. 

What to see and do

  • KENBALI SPA: The 430 square meters wellness area offers the first infinity Ying-Yang swimming pool in Kenya. Bathroom suites at the SPA reception connect to an open air- and a double treatment room. Trained therapists are there to advice you on what to choose from the SPA Menu. 
  • Game Drives, nature walks and medicinal plant discovery: Experience the real safari – morning and afternoon game drives through the park with our trained driver-guides. Picnic lunches and sundowners can be provided. Tsavo offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world – vast herds of dust-red elephant, fat pods of hippo, giant crocodile, teeming herds of plains game, a fantasia of bird life and some magical flora.  All walks accompanied by Kenya Wildlife Service armed rangers. The camp also offers night game drives.
  • Sundowners at Poachers Lookout: A conical hill jutting high above the park with 360 degree views, Poachers Lookout was once a KWS watching station. Now it offers a simple rock hut and stunning views. Drinks are served as the sun goes down, canapés are served. 
  • Bush lunches and dinners: Private ‘bush’ lunches and dinners can be arranged in the bush, complete with waiters, private bar and private BBQ cooking station, campfires and hurricane lamps. 
  • Visits to the magic of Mzima Springs: The lush, hippo-inhabited pools of Mzima Springs, fed daily by 250 million litres of water gushing from the lava flows of the Chyulu hills, provide an oasis of green, an Under-water hippo-viewing chamber, two nature trails and some unique picnic spots.

Around and about

The Park is ideally situated for visits to the massive expanses of sister park, Tsavo East whilst the verdant Taita Hills and the volcanic eruptions of the Chyulu Hills are close by. World-renowned Amboseli National Park is also within easy reach.
