This 9-day safari which can depart on any day of the week, offers offers the ultimate insight into a privileged aspect of Kenya that is never experienced by the typical safari packages. Starting from the historic luxury of Kenya’s most famous hotel, it offers three days in an exclusive bush camp located at the heart of a private conservancy on the borders of the famous Masai Mara National Reserve. Thereafter, there are four days in a Robinson Crusoe-styled camp located amongst the sand dunes of the Tana River Delta, overlooking the Indian Ocean south of Lamu.
Day 1: Arrival Nairobi
Upon arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by our representative and driven to the historic Fairmont Norfolk Hotel.
Day 2: Into the Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, you will be driven the short journey to Wilson Airport to connect to your 10am flight to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Arriving 45 minutes later, you will be met by your guide and driven to Serian Bush Camp in time to relax before lunch. After lunch enjoy your first game drive in this world-renowned reserve before returning to camp for dinner.
Day 3 and 4: On safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve
With three days on safari in the Masai Mara, the opportunities for game viewing are unprecedented. A pristine wilderness of haunting beauty, the Mara promises a profusion of wildlife, prolific bird life and the unprecedented opportunity of catching up with all the members of the ‘Big Five’ in one morning.
Day 5: Into the Tana Delta
Enjoy the morning in the Mara, leaving after lunch to connect to your 2pm flight to Malindi where you will be met (at 4pm) by our representative and driven two hours to the departure point of the boat, which will take you on a stunning 20-minute boat trip to the Delta Dunes Lodge. Arrive at the ‘wild place by the sea’ in time for dinner.
Day 6, 7 and 8: On safari in the Delta
Three days of idyllic Robinson Crusoe living in one of just six luxurious cottages amongst the rolling sand dunes of the Tana River Delta. The 708 km Tana River flows through Garissa and Garsen before branching into a huge delta as it enters the Indian Ocean, south of Lamu. Along the last 65 km of its course it flows across a broad floodplain, which is now The Lower Delta Conservation Trust and lies under the stewardship of the Orma and Pokomo. The Orma are of Ethiopian descent and are herdsmen, while the Pokomo are farmers and fishermen and the ancestral guardians of the Ozi Forest, a sanctuary for elephants, buffaloes and many other rare species.
Day 9: Depart to Nairobi
Enjoy a leisurely morning and, after lunch, retrace your boat and road journey to Malindi to connect to your flight to Nairobi and your onward connection.
