Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort

The stylish and excellently-presented Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort lies to the north of the island, near the dhow centre of Nungwi. Magnificently located it offers four stunning pools, 3 restaurants, 4 bars, numerous activities, and is exceptionally child-friendly.  Located directly on the Beachfront, with muted architectural elegance, each villa is walled off, offering privacy and serenity.

Location

The Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort  is located on the northern coast of Zanzibar, the ‘spice island’, which is part of Tanzania, and is one of East Africa’s most famous Indian Ocean beach resort destinations.

Accommodation
 
The hotel offers 4 villas (2 bedrooms (each with double bath, walk-in shower WC and bidet), large terrace, kitchen and lounge. Each villas has a central courtyard with open-sky shower, private pool, Jacuzzi, private deck and butler service.

There are 80 superior rooms and 16 suites (100 sq m each), each of which features stylish architecture and traditional furniture.

All are air-conditioned and have mini-bars, plasma screen TV, satellite TV and DVD player, Wifi and direct internet connection, King or Queen beds with mosquito nets, spacious balcony, hair dryer. Ensuite bathrooms (double bath, walk-in shower, WC and bidet). Direct dial phone, in-room safe, coffee maker, spacious seating area.

All rooms offer: laundry, direct-dial telephones, forex, Business centre (internet ,secretarial services, photocopier, fax, lamination and CD writing ), medical services, taxi-service, 24-hour room service.
  
Dining and bars

The hotel offers a range of restaurant experiences, specializing in global cuisine with particular emphasis on freshly-caught sea food. Choices include: ‘The Spices’ outdoor restaurant, ‘Samaki’, specialist sea-food restaurant, ‘Coco’, a cliff-top restaurant offering light lunches, pizza, grills and high tea. Additionally there is the ‘Upepo’ swim-up bar, the ‘Baraza’ two-storey beach bar, and the ‘Hunters Grill’, poolside al fresco BBQ area. Evening entertainment includes live bands, disco, cultural dance and cabaret.

Conference and event facilities
 
The hotel does not offer specific conference facilities but will be happy to quote for small meetings and social gatherings. Tanzania incentives can also be arranged in Stone Town or the surrounding Tanzania beach resort venues.

Weddings and honeymoons

This ideal combination of hotel and beach resort makes an ideal Tanzania wedding destination. The hotel also offers a honeymoon suite.

Child-friendly facilities

The hotel is exceptionally child-friendly. Family rooms, babysitting, children’s menus, children’s amusements, pool and beach games. There is also a Supervised Children’s Club, from 10:00 – 18:00 daily (4 – 12 years).

Activities and recreation

- Swimming: The resort offers four large free-form swimming pools, one with a swim-up bar, one with a Jacuzzi; the other an infinity pool. Sun beds, mattresses, beach umbrellas and pool towels are provided. There are daily recreational fitness activities (Animation team: water aerobics, water polo, beach volleyball, beach football, darts, table-tennis, pool) as well as a spa, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, dolphin-spotting tours, dhow trips, water sports, a well-equipped gymnasium, two floodlit tennis courts, a beauty salon, 3 gift shops and a business centre.

Water sports: (snorkelling, sea kayaking, diving, kite-surfing, wind-surfing, sailing and more), and dhow trips . The hotel can also arrange cultural visits to fishing villages, dhow workshops and Tanzania artisans markets.

Stone Town Tour: In the heart of Zanzibar, Stone Town is the only functioning historical city in East Africa and is much the same today as it was 200 years ago. A city within a city, Stone Town is the oldest section of Zanzibar Town, and is made up of winding lanes and unique stone houses, many of which feature magnificent carved doors and overhanging fretwork balconies. Places of cultural interest in Stone Town and around include: the Portuguese Fort, Sultan’s Palace, old Dhow Port, Old Slave Market, Zanzibar House of Wonders, Stone Town Old Dispensary, Livingstone’s House, slave caves/slave market, The Hamamni Bath, The National Museum of Zanzibar, The Chukwani Palace, Jozani Forest (the last sanctuary of the red colobus monkey in East Africa), Mtoni Palace and Maruhubi Palace ruins, and the Persian Baths of Kidichi.

The Spice Tour: Most hotels offer access to the Spice Tour, a tour of the spice-growing fields and orchards of East Africa’s most famous spice exporter, which lie just outside Stone Town. Typically lasting half a day, the tours usually end up with shopping for spices and oils, or a visit to the slave caves and beach resort options.

Jozani Forest Tour: The Jozani Forest Reserve is the last sanctuary in the world for the rare red colobus monkey, which is endemic to this East African island. 35 kms from Stone Town, the reserve is also home to other key East Africa species including Syke's monkey's, bush pigs and nocturnal Zanzibar leopards. Jozani has an excellent nature trail and the guides are well trained and informative.
