Golf is also a favourite pastime amongst the East African business community, all of which adds up to the fact that Kenya is a veritable golfer’s paradise. East Africa offers some of the most picturesque golf courses in the world. As well as offering specific golfing resorts, many of East Africa’s leading resorts and hotels offer immediate access to the nearest golf course, whether they be overlooking the Indian Ocean, or amid the local scenery but no nearer the hole, without a penalty’.  

Kenya, for instance, has over forty golf clubs mostly around Nairobi, (including an18-hole international standard course at the Windsor Golf and Country Club) Naivasha, Thika, Nanyuki and Nyeri, Kisumu and Kitali. There are also some fine courses on the coast. In addition the Muthaiga Golf Club plays host each year to the Kenya Open Golf Championship, which is an important stepping-stone to the European PGA circuit.

Kenya is also the only country in the world to have the following rule: ‘If a ball comes to rest…close to a hippopotamus or crocodile, another ball may be dropped at a safe distance, but no nearer the hole, without a penalty’.
