Serengeti Simba Lodge

Harmoniously nestled into the heart of the Serengeti ecosystem, set high on the Gambasage hill overlooking the famous Grumeti River, the lodge is situated on the main path of the Great Migration. Located atop a kopje in a panoramic area situated just outside the boundaries of the Serengeti National Park, this ecologically constructed and run lodge offers an infinity swimming pool, outdoor dining deck with stunning views, stylishly presented reception area, dining room, lounge with log fires, bar, and gift shop.

The Serengeti, whose Maasai name ‘Siringet’ translates as ‘the endless plains’, offers unparalleled ornithological opportunities and an unrivalled natural arena wherein the glory and harmony of nature can be appreciated as nowhere else on earth.

Location

Serengeti National Park is 200 kms west of Arusha: the park’s northern boundary abuts with the Kenya border, its western boundary reaches Lake Victoria.

Getting There


Located just outside the Fort Ikoma gate of Serengeti National Park, the lodge is accessible by road from Arusha (approximately 7 hours driving time) which is in turn linked to Dar es Salaam and Nairobi. From the north and western sides of Serengeti National Park the lodge is accessible from Mwanza, Musoma and Kenya. We can also be reached by air via charter or scheduled flights on light aircraft. Ikoma airstrip is a 15 minute drive and Seronera airstrip is approximately a 1 hour drive.

Accommodation

Offering the atmosphere of a tent, but the security of a permanent structure, the thirteen uniquely designed and beautifully furnished tented rondavels are strategically placed for privacy and optimum views. Each spacious room has:
•    solar generated power and hot water
•    limited charging and shaving in rooms (does not accept hair dryers)
•    en-suite stone bathroom with tub, shower and flush toilet
•    outdoor stone shower in complete privacy with hot and cold water
•    mosquito nets
•    handcrafted hardwood furnishing and fabrics
•    private deck
A ‘stone house’ with six executive rooms is planned for opening late in 2011.

Dining and bars

The camp has a central buffet-styled dining area serving a selection of international and local dishes and a well-stocked bar. Evening barbeques in traditional African style are a feature of the evening’s entertainment. There is also a poolside snack and bar facility.

What to see and do

The camp has its own swimming pool and gift shop.

Activities

Located just outside the park, with magnificent views across miles of the Serengeti, the camp allows for types of activities that are not permitted inside the park such as walks and night game drives from the lodge. Activities include:
•    Day & night game drives (provided by the lodge after June2011)
•    Nature walks (provided by the lodge after June2011)
•    Balloon safaris within Serengeti National Park
•    Village visit
•    Bush meals and sundowners
•    The annual migration

Community and Environmental Responsibility

Serengeti Simba Lodge has been designed and built to blend into the surroundings; the environmental policy includes:
•    solar power
•    solar hot water
•    minimal use of chemical cleaners
•    minimal water usage
•    minimal or no use of charcoal and firewood
•    maintaining indigenous plantings

There is a back-up generator available in case of necessity.

The lodge plays a role in improving the lives of the surrounding community, the people of the Ikoma tribe. In addition to providing vital employment opportunities, a bed night fee is paid to the local village council which helps fund development projects.
