Entebbe, Gateway to Uganda
Located on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, Entebbe was established as the headquarters of the colonial administration in 1863. Designated Uganda’s capital city until independence in 1962, Entebbe is the location of Uganda’s sole international airport and lies just 34km south of the present day capital city, Kampala. With an estimated population of 90,000, Entebbe is one of Uganda’s most vibrant cities, offering a popular weekend retreat for the inhabitants of Kampala who come to visit the famous Botanical Gardens, and the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee sanctuary. Featuring a number of major hotels, Entebbe also offers numerous restaurants, lakeside resorts, sporting venues and a ferry link to the islands of Lake Victoria.
