Kizimkazi is situated on the southern tip of the island of Zanzibar in Tanzania. Kizimkazi fishing village is home to several schools of bottle-nosed dolphins which can often be sighted following a short boat trip from the village. Kizimkazi, the site of a 12th century mosque, is the earliest evidence of Islam in East Africa, being the location of one of the one of the oldest Islamic buildings on the East African coast, The Kizimkazi Mosque which dates from 1107. As you enter in the Mosque you will see the Kufik inscription, which evidence the presence of Persians on the area. The earliest visitors to Zanzibar were Arab traders who are said to have arrived in the 8th century.
