Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary

Established in 1972 this Wildlife Sanctuary is located within the Taita Hills and is spectacularly located adjacent to Tsavo National Park. The sanctuary has a wide variety of game including lion, cheetah, elephant and plains game. The prolofic bird life includes the extremely rare Taita Falcon, a bird recorded in early Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary

The Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary lies at the heart of the Tsavo eco system, surrounded by Tsavo East and West national parks and the Taita Game Sanctuary. It is composed of three group ranches (Taita, Lualenyi, Mramba and Oza), all of whom have elected to pool their natural resources in the interests of sustaining this unique wilderness area.  The area is a vital wildlife corridor for the animals of Tsavo East and West, it is also an ancient elephant migratory route.

Mwaluganje Elephant sanctuary

Mwaluganje lies in the Shimba Hills forest near the Kwale Shimba National Reserve and is managed by the local council. The site was once a farm that elephants frequented to feed on a certain crop. it was then decided to turn the place into a sanctuary. A beautiful elephant watching site has been constructed from where visitors have uninterrupted view of the large animals. Occassionally one may also spot leopards there.

Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary

Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary lies on the shores of Lake Oloidien (meaning “salty water” in Maasai); a Crater Lake that was once part of the expansive Lake Naivasha, bordered by the Rift’s Mau Escarpment and Hells Gate National Park. Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary is 1 ½ hours driving distance from Nairobi and 20 minutes by plane. All profits generated by tourism are dedicated to the conservation of this area, the wildlife it supports and the sustainability of surrounding folk.
